CHIPS Manchester

Failure was not an option when MAC Roofing won the contract to waterproof the roof of the first residential scheme in the UK to be designed by renowned architect Will Alsop.

MAC Roofing brought Icopal in early on in the design process, to help with the specification and produce the detailed drawings for the architect and developer Urban Splash, and almost 1,800m. of Icopal’s Proflex range has been installed on the main roof alone. Proflex vapour control layer, perforated preparation layer, underlay and brown cap sheet were installed on the mixed use development so named because it resembles a stack of chips. The main roof caps the third layer of chips but MAC Roofing also installed Icopal systems on the lower roof elements, on the section of the building that cantilevers out over the canal in New Islington its dramatic shape and cladding is already shaping up as one of Manchester’s most striking buildings.

This project was awarded winner of the 2008 IMA contractor of the year for the Built Up Category.
