Looking to the Future with Pathway to Construction

MAC Roofing Pathways to Construction

MAC Roofing recently had the pleasure of getting involved with the Pathway to Construction scheme, an initiative aimed at connecting employers with people who don’t traditionally enter the construction sector.

As part of MAC’s involvement, Rowan Gutteridge, Group Director for its southern operations, helped deliver an online education session arranged by Laing O’Rourke for Year 10 students at Birkenhead Park School. The session was organised in conjunction with Everton in the Community (EITC) and it aimed to help the pupils learn more about construction and consider whether it might potentially offer a career route for them.

Following the highly successful session, Rowan commented:

“It was nice to be able to show the students some of the wide and varied opportunities that exist within a specialist construction trade such as roofing and cladding. The feedback we have received has been fantastic and hopefully we demonstrated that it is not just about installing products on site, and that there are many apprenticeship routes available to suit an individual’s particular skills and interests.

MAC’s presentation proved to be very popular and a great success. All involved were very appreciative, with Gill Carr from EITC commenting:

I would like to thank Rowan from MAC Roofing for supporting me on this Pathway to Construction virtual programme. I have been delivering this programme in Secondary Schools to give young people an insight into the world of construction, helping them understand the wide range of job roles and progression opportunities. In normal circumstances I would be taking them on site visits but due to the pandemic we have had to look at different ways to keep young people engaged.

Rowan delivered a really informative presentation about the roofing industry and helped the group understand about the wide range of job roles at MAC Roofing, what they look for when recruiting and the opportunities for training and progression within the company. The support of employers like MAC Roofing is invaluable and helps raise the aspirations of local young people. I am looking forward to more collaboration in the future.”
