Saint Columba URC is a relatively young church, having been built in 1964. This project involved the complete renewal of the church roof, which incorporated a dual pitch 65-degree slope covered in rosemary tile on felt and batten.

The former Royal Eye Hospital is a Grade II listed building, and was one of the first hospitals to be built in Manchester. In total, MAC Roofing installed over 4,000m2 of materials on this project, including hot melt, single ply and pitched roof systems.

MoD Lyneham

This £121million joint venture project between Kier Major Projects and Balfour Beatty involved converting the existing RAF base into a major engineering training campus, providing state-of-the-art facilities for up to 5,000 Army, RAF and Navy trainees. MAC were chosen to work on an extensive range of new build and refurbishment projects, incorporating 10 different roofing and cladding disciplines. This included composite panel roofs and walls, standing seam roofs, pitched composite panels with concrete tiles over, built-up metal cladding, hot melt and single ply flat roofs, built-up felt refurbishment roofs and pitched tiled roofs on trusses.

Hoylake Community Centre faced the threat of closure for many years, but in 2013 the Centre gained charitable status and the local community rallied together to take ownership of the building. Although general repairs had been carried out to the property, the roof was a major element that still needed attention, and MAC Roofing were selected to replace the existing pitched roof and help continue to transform the property from its previous derelict state.

A mixture of new build and refurbishment works recently took place at this College, and MAC Roofing were responsible for the complete roof refurbishment of its high tech Construction and Engineering Building. The project presented a number of challenges, partly due to the roof’s distinctive barrel vault curved features, but also because tight deadlines meant that much of the work had to be carried out in a live teaching environment.

The Harbour is a project to create a brand new, state-of-the-art medical facility situated on the Fylde Coast in Blackpool. The roofing and waterproofing works included a wide variety of systems, including standing seam metal roofing, single ply, hot melt, traditional slating and external wall cladding.

Original plans to rebuild this all-girls secondary school were unfortunately scrapped, but Liverpool City Council then agreed to invest in the school as part of a £169m city-wide initiative. The result is a modern three-storey educational development on which MAC Roofing installed 4,500m2 of polymeric single ply roofing and over 3,600m2 of Kingspan composite cladding in three striking colours.

MAC Roofing brought Icopal in early on in the design process, to help with the specification and produce the detailed drawings for the architect and developer Urban Splash, and almost 1,800m2 of Icopal’s Proflex range has been installed on the main roof alone. Proflex vapour control layer, perforated preparation layer, underlay and brown cap sheet were installed on the mixed use development so named because it resembles a stack of chips. The main roof caps the third layer of chips but Mac Roofing also installed Icopal systems on the lower roof elements, on the section of the building that cantilevers out over the canal in New Islington its dramatic shape and cladding is already shaping up as one of Manchester’s most striking buildings.

The Budenberg Haus Apartments were the first residential development to be designed by Foster and Partners outside of London. The scheme resembles the bow of a boat and features a series of staggered roofs that create the impression of a green stair. With a demanding delivery schedule, the construction of this prestigious landmark project for Urban Splash required effective, efficient waterproofing to ensure that the programme stayed on track.

In late 2011, it opened a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility in Skelmersdale, a £42.8 million project that would further improve education, training and skills opportunities for the local community.

The Hanover Gardens residential buildings in Great Yarmouth had flat roofs which had been leaking for some time, the most recent of which was a single ply roof that had failed after just 4 years due to poor workmanship. Hanover Housing therefore decided to carry out a full refurbishment scheme and asked for a new flat to pitch roof conversion to be installed over all three blocks.

Bolton town centre has a market tradition stretching back over 750 years, and it has won numerous awards, including ‘Best Indoor Retail Market’ and ‘Tourism Retailer of the Year’. In 2012, the market underwent a £4.5million redevelopment, including a new outdoor market, major improvements to the Eastern Hall and a number of structural repairs.

Copley High School in Tameside achieved Academy status in early 2014, and now has over 700 pupils on its school roll. However, prior to becoming an academy, the secondary school was experiencing severe problems with a leaking roof, and cuts to funding meant that plans to build a new school had been cancelled.
