In addition, we were were awarded 2nd place in this category with St. Columba’s Church in Liverpool, and elsewhere we claimed 2nd place in the Eco Active category with Stubbins Primary School in Bury.
The IMA is an association of Icopal-approved roofing contractors offering a guaranteed level of exceptional service, skill and technical expertise. The annual awards showcase the very best projects in terms of workmanship, team working and overcoming challenges, and this most recent success is testament to the hard word and dedication shown by the whole MAC team. Well done to everyone involved!
Liscard Primary School – Project Summary:
This old school was required to be completely re-covered with ICOPAL’s Decra Noxite tiles, delivering an innovative waterproofing solution that also removed harmful pollutants from the air. All works needed to take place during term time which presented a number of issues, although MAC Roofing were able to overcome all concerns during many meetings which took place between the school, the local authority and ourselves.
The roof elevations contained numerous challenging dormers and valleys where the original slates had to be removed, with new quilt insulation then applied over the ceiling. Felt and battens were then affixed before the final installation of the Decra Noxite tiles. All vent dormers had to be reconstructed, and all structural main roof timbers had to be mechanically fixed to the masonry construction. This was achieved with stainless steel stud bolts drilled and resin bonded along every wall plate. The main timbers were then reinforced with steel straps. This operation was specified to ensure that the new lightweight roof coverings would not allow the whole roof to become dislodged during high winds. The weather presented a further challenge, as all works had to be completed whilst trying to keep the roof watertight during the winter months. MAC Roofing liaised daily with the school to ensure that the whole project could be safely completed whilst school lessons continued, all to an agreed duration and programme. The project was delivered on time with only minor issues to deal with along the way, to the delight of both the client and the school.
