Throwback Thursday – Bolton Town Hall

Bolton Town Hall - MAC Roofing

Our feature project this Throwback Thursday is Bolton Town Hall. On this Grade II listed building MAC were chosen to upgrade the existing insulation and install new Welsh Penrhyn slating to all areas of the town hall and council chambers.

The installation required a very high level of skill and knowledge in order to replace and upgrade a very complicated old roof with a 21st Century specification that incorporated a number of modern items. Several technical and logistical challenges also had to be overcome along the way. In addition, intricate detailing was required on each elevation of the Town Hall when it came to slate cutting and lead installation.

This important restoration project was successfully delivered on time and within budget, and subsequently received a Living Heritage Award from Welsh Slate. It was also declared one of the best projects in the UK at the construction industry’s annual ‘Oscars’.
