The Harbour is a project to create a brand new, state-of-the-art medical facility situated on the Fylde Coast in Blackpool. It will provide a total of 154 beds for adults with a range of functional mental health problems, dementia and mobility issues. For such an important and prestigious project, the Lancashire Care NHS Trust insisted upon using high quality construction materials and working with specialist, experienced installers. As a result, the client, along with main contractors Vinci Construction, selected MAC for the roofing works, due to its ability to meet a number of key project requirements.
MAC Roofing successfully installed over 15,000m2 of standing seam roofing onto this project, in addition to 5,000m2 of other waterproofing systems including monolithic hot melt, polymeric single ply, cold applied liquids and green roofing. MAC were also able to take on the traditional pitched slating element of the job, as well as the external wall cladding.
The client and main contractor were particularly impressed MAC’s pro-active problem solving approach on this project. For example, MAC suggested an improved design for the ‘bullnose’ details at the eaves of the metal roofing that allowed for simpler installation with more effective waterproofing. This early design input from MAC’s expert design team also helped save considerable time and money for the client.
Overall, this project demonstrates how multiple roofing systems can be effectively specified and installed onto one high profile project, combining to provide the very best long-term waterproofing.
